GR Yaris Gen 2 Germany: Torque Restriction Due to Euro 6e-bis

Hi,

I’m currently considering buying a GR Yaris Gen2 in Germany, but I’ve noticed that the official torque figure has been reduced from 390 Nm to 345 Nm on the German-spec cars, reportedly due to Euro 6e-bis regulations.

I’m curious what the community thinks about this:

  • Is it only an ECU remap that reduces the torque, or are there any hardware changes as well?
  • Has anyone driven both the 390 Nm and 345 Nm versions? How noticeable is the difference in real-world driving?
  • I’m currently undecided between ordering a new car or looking for a used one that still has the 390 Nm rating. I test-drove a GR Yaris with 390 Nm, but I haven’t had the chance to drive the new 345 Nm version.

Another question I have is about the future of the GR Yaris.

From what I’ve read, the transition from Euro 6e-bis to Euro 7 is approaching, and emissions regulations are becoming increasingly strict. Euro 6e-bis will remain valid until November 2027.

Do you think Toyota will continue to develop and sell the GR Yaris in Europe, or is there a risk that it could eventually be discontinued?

As a potential buyer, I’m trying to decide whether to buy a new one now or search for a used 390 Nm model, so I’d really appreciate hearing your opinions.

Thanks!

-Yes it’s only an ECU remap to fit the Euro 6e Norm.

-Yes i did, the difference is noticeable and disapointing. That’s why i tuned my GR

-If i where you i would buy a used one with 390 Nm

Agree with that, I‘d go for a 390 second-hand car.

I don’t see emission restrictions going less strict in the future btw.

Cheers

It is noticeable, but far less than the jump from Stock Tune to a proper remap. I’d also recommend a used and already modified gen1/gen2 to safe a ton of money.

My dilemma is between new Aeropackage/Steering Wheel vs. 390Nm. I’m not sure if I could drive the car as stock in the limit. So is that +45Nm really necessary for me.

I can imagine that I could feel the difference when i drive them back to back. Sadly the dealers around my region do not have any GRs for test drive. I’m at region 71xxx in Germany so if anybody knows where I can test drive it let me know

And if its gonna be tuned anyway which I’m not planning actually, then its also not important if it’s 390 or 345.
